Year-End Bookkeeping Checklist

Records to organize before corporate tax and year-end work begins.

Bank and credit-card accounts

  • Statements for all business bank and credit-card accounts through year-end.
  • Completed reconciliations or information needed to resolve unreconciled items.

Sales and expenses

  • Complete sales records and payment-processor reports.
  • Expense receipts, supplier statements and records of unpaid bills at year-end.

Assets, debts and owner transactions

  • Vehicle, equipment and other asset-purchase documents.
  • Loan and financing statements.
  • Shareholder contributions, withdrawals and amounts paid personally on behalf of the business.

Payroll and GST/HST

Make sure payroll records, remittances and GST/HST filings can be reconciled to the bookkeeping records before the corporate return is prepared.
